Combuses, the official white-green colored airport buses, with the sign "Aeropuerto JMC" connect MDE Airport to central Medellin.
The buses are located on the right side of the front entrance/exit of the airport. They leave as soon as they are full, so the departure times depend highly on the flight arrivals/traffic. However, you should not wait more than 30 minutes.
The buses have only two stops and drop passengers in:
• Centro Comercial San Diego (San Diego Mall): the easiest place to take a regular taxi to go to El Poblado or Envigado where most tourists tend to stay.
• Centro de la Ciudad (behind Hotel Nutibara): the last stop of the buses and it is Medellin’s city center.
The buses operate between 6:00 AM to midnight from the airport to Medellin and 3:30 AM to 21:30 from vice versa.
The trip takes around 45 minutes to Centro Comercial San Diego and 60 minutes to Centro de la Ciudad. A single ticket costs COP 10000.
There is no train/metro connection available at Jose Maria Cordoba International Airport (MDE).
Jose Maria Cordoba Airport is located in the municipality of Rionegro, 30 km away from Medellin.
You can take either a yellow-colored regular taxi or a white-colored shared taxi (locally called taxi colectivo).
Regular taxis charge around COP 70000 to Poblado but the cost can increase up to COD 80000 for areas like Envigado.
Shares taxis charge a flat rate of COP 15000 and they go directly to Centro Comercial San Diego. From there, you can get to your final destination taking another taxi.
Sharing a taxi is quite common among travelers; as you exit from the gate, you will find these white-colored taxis. You might need to wait a bit as the drivers wait to have four passengers before heading to city.
The journey to Medellin center takes around 45 minutes depending on traffic.
If you don't want to deal with the hassle of taxi companies/drivers or long bus queues, you can prebook a ride via Kiwitaxi, an online booking platform that offers reliable and cheap airport transfers worldwide. The English-speaking driver will wait for you at the airport even if your flight is delayed, holding a sign with your name on it.
• Taxi drivers rarely speak English, so be sure to carry your hotel's phone number and address written in Spanish.
• Be sure to have pesos before taking the taxi, the drivers do not accept other currencies. You will get charged extra if you ask to stop at some ATM to withdraw money.
