There are two different bus services available from Helsinki Airport to city center including express buses and regular public buses.
❯ Finnair city bus is the express bus service and it is the most convenient and used transport way from the airport to Helsinki center (Eliel square, located right next to the Central Railway Station).
The buses operate every 20 minutes from 5:00 AM to midnight and the journey from Helsinki Airport to center takes around 30 minutes.
You can get your tickets online or directly from the driver by paying just 10 cents more than the online price (€6.20 one-way, €11.40 return).
The buses depart from Platform 11 at Terminal 1 and Platform 10 at Terminal 2.
❯ Bus 615 and 617 also take you to the center but as they are not express buses the journey takes more time.
• Bus 615 operates 24 hours a day, leaving the airport for Helsinki Central Railway Station every 30 minutes.
• Bus 617 operates from 4:10 AM to 2:15 PM (Monday to Friday), leaving the airport for Hakaniemi market square every hour.
The buses depart from Bus Stop 12 at Terminal 1 and Bus Stop 25 at Terminal 2.
The journey takes around 40 minutes and the tickets cost €5.50.
Night fee (€7) is applied between 2:00 AM and 4:30 AM.
The new ring rail line of Helsinki connects Helsinki Vantaa Airport to the city.
The ring rail line has two trains: Train I and Train P.
The lines operate in opposite directions of the ring and they all stop at the airport (Lentoasema/Flygplatsen Station). Regardless which line you take, you will get to the city center.
The trains operate from 5:00 AM to 0:40 AM with a frequency of 10 minutes during day time. The full timetables and live train updates can be found on VR’s webpage.
❯ Train P goes to Helsinki Central Railway Station via Tikkurila Railway Station where nearly all the long distance trains stop, such as trains to Moscow and Saint Petersburg. If you plan to go to Russia or other parts of Finland, you should take this line and get off at Tikkurila Railway Station.
❯ Train I goes also to Helsinki Central Railway Station but using the opposite direction, via Huopalahti Railway Station.
The train trip to Helsinki Central Railway Station from the airport takes around 30 minutes and the ticket costs €5.50.
If you are leaving from the airport, choose Train P to save time (5 minutes). It has a shorter route to the center, the journey time would be 27 minutes instead of 32.
The typical regular taxi trip from Helsinki Vantaa Airport to Helsinki city takes around 20-30 minutes and the fee is around €40-45.
The taxi ranks are located right outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
There are also two companies that offer shared taxi services with fixed rate.
You can find their service desks in Terminal 2, arrivals hall 2A.
If you don't want to deal with the hassle of taxi companies/drivers or long bus queues, you can prebook a ride via Kiwitaxi, an online booking platform that offers reliable and cheap airport transfers worldwide. The English-speaking driver will wait for you at the airport even if your flight is delayed, holding a sign with your name on it.
